I’m considering hatching some Mexican Speckled Quail eggs in July, if they’re available. There’s a place in Wisconsin, (my home state!), that sells them. Maybe I’ll have better luck with a different species. Maybe I’m just a cockeyed optimist! Aren’t they beautiful?

  1. From what I’ve read, they get to be 8-11 inches long, like the Japanese quail I have raised. They are similar, but have more intricate feather patterns. My one concern is that they crow the way the Japanese quail do, which sounds like a rooster. Even though they are much smaller than roosters, they have a loud call. I personally enjoy it, but my husband does not. I’ll figure this out…One of the places that sells the eggs is about an hour from my mom’s house in Wisconsin. I really want to go visit this place when I’m home in July. Maybe that will give me a better idea of how loud they are. Cock-a-doodle-doo!
